Chairman of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Council, Hon. Retired Chief Justice Mohamed Chande Othman has commended the management for continuing to implement various directives from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency, Samia Suluhu Hassan who directed each Government Institution to form a Staff Council, something that SUA have already implemented.

He offered the congratulations on Friday, June 18, 2021, while opening the 122nd meeting of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff General Council held in the Tanga region at the VETA hall.

In his speech, he noted that the purpose of the Staff Council, as it is known, is to provide an opportunity for employees, through their representatives, to discuss various issues related to increasing productivity, efficiency, and interests of employees, so it is good for such meetings of the Staff Council to be used to discuss productive issues that enhance performance and achieve the goals and plans of the university including the interests of the Staff.

He went on to say that it is not always possible to talk about good governance in the workplace without the involvement of staff and that the involvement of staff is effective where there are active staff councils

He stressed that the existence of Staff Councils is an opportunity for building bridges between the management and staff and it helps to create an environment to enable both parties to communicate easily.

Hon. Chande concluded his speech by thanking the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan for trusting him and re-appointing him to continue as Chairman of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Council for a second term.
